Biography

Jennie is a post-doctoral researcher in green chemistry with her main interest in the development of novel materials from biomass via holistic approaches utilising their natural functionalisation. She has developed sustainable catalysts from algae, adsorbents for metal and dye recovery and bioplastics. She carried out her PhD at the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence (UK) and has recently been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Jennie is interested in wider science policy and environmental challenges in the technological aspect of the green economy especially land-use change, technology transfer and the circular economy. She is also an enthusiastic communicator of science developing hands-on green science experiments and is Chair of the new Network of Early Career Sustainable Scientists & Engineers (NESSE) aiming to connect green scientists to share knowledge, problems and resources.
